What is bSolo?
bSolo is like a smart tax assistant for the self-employed. It is a service that saves for quarterly taxes whenever you get paid and submits federal and state tax payments on your behalf.
How do I open an account?
Subscribing to bSolo takes just a few steps. These steps will include, among other things, completing an application, verifying your identity (to create your Deposit Account at Evolve Bank and Trust, Member FDIC), linking your external bank account (to set aside money for taxes), and setting up your quarterly tax goals (how much you plan to pay in federal and state taxes). Is my account FDIC-insured?
When you sign up for bSolo, you will be asked to set up a Deposit Account with Evolve Bank and Trust, Member FDIC. With your approval and instructions, a portion of your income will be transferred by Evolve Bank and Trust, Member FDIC, into this account every time you get paid. The funds held in your Deposit Account are FDIC-insured, subject to applicable limits. Please visit https://www.fdic.gov/deposit/deposits/faq.html for more information.
Which filing statuses do you support?
We support any filing status (marital status or family situation) with one exception—the case where both people are self-employed, married, and filing jointly. If you have any questions, please contact our support team, or learn more about filing status here.
I have a sole proprietorship/LLC/S-Corp, can I use this service?
We support self-employed individuals with pass-through entities such as these, so long as the business uses a personal bank account, not a business bank account.
Do I still need to file my own tax returns?
Yes, you'll still need to file your own tax returns. We know. It's rough. At least it only happens once a year. For the rest of the year-especially when your quarterlies are due-you've got us.
How do I close my account?
Please contact the bSolo support team at support@bSolo.com. They'll take it from there.

Pricing and fees

When do I get billed for my plan?
If you have a monthly plan, we'll bill you every 30 days from the day you opened your account. If you have a quarterly plan, we'll bill you every three months.

When I save for taxes with bSolo, where is my money held?
While you're saving up for your next estimated tax payment, your money is safeguarded by our FDIC-insured partner, Evolve Bank and Trust.

I have a business bank account; can I use bSolo?
Unfortunately, we're only able to link to personal bank accounts right now. If you'd like to suggest this as a future enhancement to bSolo, we're happy to hear from you at support@bsolo.com.
Does bSolo Tax link with business bank accounts?
We are starting with individual checking and savings accounts, but stay tuned.
When can I expect my money to be deposited in this account?
During the account setup process, you'll tell us how much you'd like to set aside for taxes. Then, whenever we see a deposit that looks like income, your designated amount will be transferred in 1-3 business days.
Will you calculate the amount of taxes I owe?
We will do anything for love, but we won't do that. Here's the official IRS page on Estimated Taxes - please refer to the section "How to Figure Estimated Tax." To help you get started with calculating state taxes, we've linked official resources for our supported states:

Do you provide tax advice?
We'll make it easier for you to pay your taxes, but we don't provide tax advice for anyone's personal financial situation—for that we recommend speaking with your certified tax preparer or accountant. We will provide general guidance around quarterly tax payments, citing the appropriate tax authority whenever possible.

Paying taxes

When are my taxes paid?
A few days before your next tax deadline, we'll schedule your tax payment and notify you. You can cancel the payment, or do nothing-which tells bSolo to go ahead and pay taxes.
What happens if I don't have enough money saved for taxes?
If you haven't saved your full designated amount for taxes, your current balance will still be paid towards federal taxes a few days before your next tax deadline. Any remainder will be paid towards state taxes.
What happens if I underpay my taxes?
Underpaying taxes may result in a penalty, but there are ways to reduce penalties. For example, typically, the earlier you pay off what’s due, the smaller the penalty. Please consult a tax professional to ensure that the amount you’ve designated for taxes is appropriate for your circumstances.
What happens if I am late on my tax payment?
Because we submit your payment a few days before it's due, you should never be late. But here's the official rule per the IRS: a payment that isn't postmarked on or before the due dates may be considered late and result in a penalty. We'll send automatic reminders to keep you in the loop about upcoming due dates, which can differ from year to year.
Where can I see a record of my tax payments?
We'll email you the receipts for all your tax payments. You can also see a record of previous payments under "Account Activity" in your dashboard.
